In their search for good skin, American women alone spend over $300 million a year on everything from basic cold creams to customized eye gels and berry-laced facial scrubs. Given the proper tools (good nutrition, proper amounts of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, skin conditioners, and effective cleansing) the skin can take care of itself almost indefinitely. However, since it has to rely on you to feed and protect it, you are required to make the best decisions possible.

If we don’t respect and protect our skin as if it is just as important as our heart or brain, it will begin to breakdown and deteriorate very quickly.

Tips To Help Keep Your Skin Healthy and Beautiful

• Drink a minimum of 8 coffee cup-sized glasses (8 oz.) of water each day.
• Use a sunscreen every day.
• Supplement with vitamins and minerals every day.
• Wear hats and long-sleeved shirts or carry an umbrella if you’ll be exposed to the sun or cold for long periods of time (zoos, picnics, beaches).
• Check for localized areas of sun damage. The most common areas are the bridge of the nose, above the eyebrows, and forearms (they hang out the car window when driving). If you notice any abnormal growths have them checked by a physician.
• Keep a chart of any moles that you may have and note if they begin to look different from the others (take pictures if you need to). If so, have a doctor look at them.
• Maintain a stable body weight.
• Exercise regularly as this not only tones your muscles (making your skin look better) but also gets your blood flowing, oxygenates your skin, and removes toxins from your body.
• Stop eating fast foods – these can create additional bacteria in your body.
• If your face is puffy in the mornings, sleep on your back.
• To keep your face from getting oily when you sleep wear a headband.
• As much as possible limit your contact with solvents, alkalies, acids, drying alcohols (not all alcohols are drying), bleaches, household cleansers, and the like.
• If you work outside in the dust or weeds or in any setting where there are common irritants, shower immediately after getting home or before leaving the site if possible.
• Use a dry brush all over your body before showering.
• If dieting, don’t lose weight too quickly as this can cause your skin to sag.
• Supplement with a good antioxidant as this will increase the strength of collagen and elastin fibers (the materials your skin is made of).
• Limit your use of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.
• Limit the time spent in chlorinated pools and/or water.
• Pat instead of rubbing when drying off from baths or showers.

  Marketing Without a Conscience

For centuries, substances such as mud and clay have been used to purify the skin. Mineral waters, oils from plants, and a thousand other substances have been used to prepare cosmetic solutions. Still, the cosmetic manufacturers of the past could not even dream of producing the myriad of preparations that 21st century technology allows us to create.

However, while the quantity may have been different, the focus has remained essentially the same: Offer the consumer a way to keep their skin firm, supple, wrinkle-free, and youthful.

In the past it could be argued that very few manufacturers paid attention to the potential side effects, or even considered the possible health benefits, that such solutions might provide. Vanity and the almighty dollar ruled the day. Today, as we approach the 21st century, little has changed.

Confusing the issues of what to do for your skin and what not to do is the way most cosmetics are marketed. A prime example of this type of

marketing is seen when cosmetic manufacturers resort to adding

questionable substances to their products solely for the temporary effects they produce. In such cases, healthy ‘looking’ skin doesn’t mean that your skin is healthy.

Take, for instance, aluminum. Aluminum is used in many skin ‘care’ preparations. Why? It’s because aluminum shrinks and closes skin pores which gives your skin a smoother appearance. Unfortunately, it also serves to virtually stop the natural expulsion of bacteria and toxins from your skin. In effect, it doesn’t allow your skin to breathe and your tissues literally suffocate until it’s removed.

Fortunately, one positive change that has taken place in today’s marketplace is the level of education that consumers have. Our society, for better or worse, has an abundance of information concerning almost any subject that you would care to investigate. Cosmetic preparation is no different. However, with such an enormous amount of information there comes the possibility of misinformation – whether accidental or deliberate. As it has been said, given enough raw information, one can produce ‘facts’ that are able to ‘prove’ anything. 

Sadly, this type of stretching the truth for the sake of making a sale is very common in the marketing of products.

Walk into any department store, read any of over 100 magazines, or watch television commercials and you’ll see retailers trying to dazzle you with their ‘awe-inspiring’ creams, gels, lotions, and soaps. Persons acting as salespeople are armed with the latest ‘facts’ concerning the health benefits of their products and are equally prepared to give out warnings against competitors. Most people, not having the resources to investigate the sources of these claims, are at the mercy of advertising experts.

Is every claim misleading? No. However, unscrupulous marketers often seize upon the opportunity to cash-in on an ever-growing segment of the population who are purchasing cosmetics. They accomplish this by presenting half-truths or manipulating facts. Even though this is unethical and unscrupulous, it does sell products.

As with any system of skin care, consistency is the key to long term effectiveness. The Z-RO Gravity skin care system has three easy steps.

Step 1) Apply the Complete Cleanser, massage it over your face and throat and allow it to remain on the skin for 1-2 minutes. Remove with water.

Step 2) Pat on the Ultimate Moisturizer (your pores are like small cylinders so patting is more effective than stroking) and then smooth out. Use morning and night. The moisturizer can be used under makeup.

What Causes Dark Circles and Bags Under Your Eyes?

The surface layers of your skin are supported by columns of fibers that consist chiefly of collagen, elastin, and fat. “Shortly after major surgery in 1985 I developed rosacea. Over the next ten years my condition was labeled acute and the level of pain I experienced steadily increased as did the length and severity of the flare ups.
